Greenland: Navigation to the Northern Kingdom (From 12 Days)

Embark Silver Wind in the Icelandic capital, a walkable city of colour and creativity known for Hallgrimskirkja, the old harbour and its geothermal pools. The ship sails in the late afternoon for the open North Atlantic.

A morning at the Westman Islands, dominated by the steep cone of Eldfell and black volcanic sand beaches. The archipelago hosts the largest Atlantic puffin colony in the world, and the town museum records the 1973 eruption that buried much of it.

A full day crossing the Denmark Strait towards Greenland. The expedition team's lecture programme, the Observation Lounge and the open decks fill the day as the first icebergs appear.

Silver Wind threads the dramatically picturesque fjord that separates Greenland's southern tip from the mainland. Walls rise more than 2,200 metres above the water, with waterfalls, hanging glaciers and drifting brash ice on all sides.

A morning in the 70-kilometre Tassermiut Fjord, described as one of the ten wonders of the Arctic. Jagged granite walls, glacier tongues and Norse-era valley floors make this one of the most spectacular anchorages in south Greenland.

Morning in Qaqortoq, the largest town in southern Greenland, with its painted timber houses, fountain square and Stone and Man sculpture trail. In the afternoon the ship repositions to Hvalsey, home to the best-preserved Norse ruins in the country, including the 14th-century church that hosted the last recorded event of Norse Greenland.

A day sailing north along the Greenland coast, with lectures from the expedition team's geologists, ornithologists and historians. Whale and seabird watching continues from the open decks.

A full day in Greenland's second city, set above the Arctic Circle with brightly painted houses stacked on the rocks. The old colonial quarter, museum and surrounding hiking trails are the focus of the day's excursions.

A long day at Ilulissat, on the edge of the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord, where the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier calves enormous icebergs into Disko Bay. Excursions range from the boardwalk to the icefjord viewpoint to boat and helicopter options, and the ship stays late into the evening.

A scenic day at sea in Disko Bay and along the west Greenland coast, with time for the spa, the Panorama Lounge and continued wildlife watching. The expedition team recaps the voyage's sightings and prepares for the final landings.

A full day at the head of one of Greenland's longest fjords, the country's main aviation hub and the easiest access point to the Greenland Ice Sheet. Excursions run out across the tundra towards the ice cap, with musk ox, Arctic hare and reindeer regularly seen.

A morning cruising the 'fjord of eternity', more than 100 kilometres long and flanked by peaks above 2,000 metres. Zodiacs explore beneath tidewater glaciers, tundra slopes and cliff-side bird colonies.

Disembark in Greenland's small but surprisingly cosmopolitan capital, home to the Greenland National Museum and the historic Colonial Harbour. The included post-cruise charter flight and hotel night complete the programme.
