Day 1Paris — boarding and dinner aboard
Board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Paris in the mid-afternoon, departing at around 16:00, where your cabin steward welcomes you with sparkling wine and settles you into your restored 1920s and 1930s wagon-lit. The afternoon passes with tea in your cabin and cocktails in the bar car as eastern France slips by. Dinner is a black-tie four-course affair in one of the three marquetry-panelled restaurant cars, paired by the sommelier, followed by a cheeseboard, petits fours and piano music in the bar car until late.
Day 2Through the Alps to Venice
Wake to a continental breakfast brought to your cabin as the train climbs through Alpine scenery, with snowfields, lakes and mountain villages framed in your window. A three-course lunch is served in the restaurant cars as the train descends onto the plains of northern Italy. Arrive at Venice Santa Lucia at around 17:30, where a complimentary transfer is arranged to your Venice accommodation.
